Cultural Adaptation + Translation of Honeycomb Speech Therapy Materials

The Process:

It’s important that all clients in speech therapy have access to person-centered therapy approaches in their language, and include culturally relevant factors. In thinking about making Honeycomb Speech Therapy materials available in other languages, we have decided to follow a heuristic framework as a best practice – this emphasizes cultural adaptation. The Cultural Adaptation Team:

Lola Brito is a bilingual (Spanish/English) SLP (Fonoaudióloga) and Audiologist Latina born and raised in Colombia 🇨🇴. She graduated from the University of Cauca and Corporación Universitaria Iberoamericana. She has 16 years of experience, has worked in 🇨🇴and 🇺🇲, and has treated EI population, neurodiverse and neurotypical children, and adults. She currently owns a private practice attending bilingual pediatric/teens, myofunctional therapy and outpatient with acquired neurologic disorders. She loves to provide a holistic approach and serve our patients and their families with functional and relevant tools for everyday life skills.

Laura Flores is a Bilingual (Spanish/English) SLP in the Central Florida area. She has 3 years of experience and has worked with children and adults in the outpatient hospital setting. She began translating as an effort to better serve her patients and help improve accessibility of resources in the field of healthcare.
