Traditional speech therapy tasks look like worksheets and closets full of workbooks– yet the latest best practices talk about the need for speech therapy to be meaningful and relating to an individual’s everyday life. Speech therapy goals need to relate to activity and participation, and not solely focus on impairment-level skills. In my journey to understand how we can better provide meaningful, relevant, and functional therapy, this became known to me as person-centered care.
