Hi SLP Colleagues!

Last week I released Book 3 in the Functional Treatment for Everyday Cognition Series: Task-Specific Language & Cognitive Supports! This book is CHOCK-FULL of practical, easy-to-implement, “why-didn’t-i-think-of-that?” ideas and pictures that illustrate how no-tech supports can meet practical, functional needs for the language and cognitive-impaired populations we work with! This book is based off ample evidence that external aids and environmental modifications help improve functional outcomes. Our work doesn’t have to be rocket science to make a real difference in someone’s everyday life.

And because our work doesn’t have to be rocket science, I’m sharing my favorite “tools” ($10 or less!) that I stay stocked up on to help create task-specific language & cognitive supports!

Psst: In case you missed it: The Functional Treatment for Everyday Cognition Series is part of my mission to bring affordable, understandable, efficient, evidence-based, useable, functional therapy materials to other SLPs.  If you have that deep-down knowledge/feeling that games and worksheets aren’t really cutting it for our neuro patients…. but aren’t sure what else to pass the time with in therapy, then this series if for you! Evidence tells us there are TONS of treatment methods we can apply to make a functional difference in our patients’ lives!

So you are moving away from games and workbooks in favor of using therapy time to improve real life…. what tools do you have with you instead? Below are my favorite items that I keep with me to create personalized language or cognitive supports (no tech!) on the fly. If you want ideas about how to use theses tools to create no-tech, task-specific supports that improve life participation, check out Book 3: Task-Specific Language & Cognitive Supports or read more about it here.
